Who We Are

Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana is committed to building girls with courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Our camps serve over 5,000 girls each summer with programs that challenge campers to live outdoors, try new things, and develop relationships.

For those interested, room and board is available.
Positions begin early June with staff training, and finish in early August, with opportunities for occasional fall work.
Lifeguards assist with implementation of the aquatic program. Work as a lifeguard under supervision of Waterfront or Aquatics Director. Ensure that safety standards are being met. Assist with unit programming when waterfront is closed in the evening or due to weather, may be assigned to a camper unit for lodging as needed.

Current Lifeguard and CPR certifications required, Waterfront certification preferred. Lifeguard certification training is available for candidates; however position is dependent on passing the lifeguard skills exam, including the swimming pre-test.

Qualifications and General Expectations

  • Candidates must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • High School Graduation is required
  • All staff must possess First Aid and CPR certification by the employment start date. Training is provided for camp staff on select dates by GSGCNWI for no fee.
  • All staff must provide proof of completion of Mandated Reporter training prior to the employment start date.
  • All staff must submit proof of health physical clearing the candidate for work in a camp setting.
  • Staff should have prior experience with childcare, education, and/or outdoor recreation.

Candidates should be willing to live and work in an indoor and outdoor camp setting, which includes working irregular hours with limited or simple equipment, rustic facilities, wildlife and insects; limited technology while at camp, and daily exposure to sun, rain, and other weather conditions.
Salary is a daily rate dependent on the candidate s position and experience.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
